Statement about Pupil Premium

Pupil premium funding is allocated to schools in respect of children from low-income families who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. In   2012-13 this will also include pupils eligible for FSM at any point in the last six years (known as the Ever 6 FSM measure).

Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit to “close the gap” between children from disadvantaged circumstances and those above the low-income threshold – it is not linked to a specific child but is to be used for overall impact.

At Pentland Infant and Nursery, Pupil premium funding is allocated following a needs analysis which will identifies priority groups or individuals. Limited funding and resources means that not all children receiving free school meals will be in receipt of pupil premium interventions at one time.

For the financial year 2011/12, the school received £9,800

The money was used in the following ways:

  • To buy into the Kirklees Schools Sports Partnership to ensure all children received additional high quality provision across a range of sports.
  • To purchase new reading books to extend and support children’s reading.
  • To pay for an Attendance Support Officer to raise the profile of school attendance and monitor and track children’s individual attendance patterns.
  • Purchased waterproof clothing to allow children to access the outdoor learning environment in all weathers.

For the financial year 2012/13 the school will receive £13,200.

The money will be used in the following ways:

  • To pay for an Attendance Support Officer to raise the profile of school attendance and monitor and track children’s individual attendance patterns.
  • Charges will be removed from After School Clubs in order to support access by all pupils to extra curricular activities. This will help to enhance their personal and social development and give them wider learning experiences and opportunities to draw from in their learning.
  • Better Reading Partnership training will be accessed and cascaded to the staff team.  Individual reading sessions will then be offered on a rolling programme over ten week periods.
  • Purchase of books for the Better Reading Partnership.
  • Phonics teaching resources and training will be purchased.
  • Home-school learning materials will be funded.
  • Parent Workshop events will be funded; costs of release time for staff, crèche provision, resources and printing will be covered.
  • Outreach work will be put in place to support identified families.
